Mining is the ultimate gathering skill in World of Warcraft. This short WoW mining guide has a good introduction to the skill and some great tips to getting started with moving up the mining levels.

You use mining to extract ores, stones and gems from the mineral nodes all around Azeroth. You will naturally find more of these nodes underground. Miners also smelt these ores down into metal bars, which Blacksmiths, Engineers and Jewelcrafters use to make their wares. It's good idea to combine Mining with one of these other professions in your character.

As you'll learn from this WoW Mining Guidem, Mining is such a valuable skill, because you are digging up valuable materials that you can sell for gold - you can even sell copper to high level players who don't want to gather it themselves.

The highest level in mining is 450, and because it's a gathering profession it takes a long time to reach that level, but the incredible resources you can find once you get there are worth it.

Getting Started

Here's how to get started with mining: firstly, you want to find a trainer in any main city of Old Azeroth and they will teach you Apprentice Mining. it would be good to get this enchant as well at this stage: Formula:Enchanct Gloves - Advanced Mining. That'll save you good time when you get to the Thorium and need to mine the rich veins as quickly as possible.

Level 1+ WoW Mining Guide

Start mining copper ore around Durotar and Dun Morogh, whenever you get 30, smelt it and save the bars for later. When you're level 65, you learn Mining Journeyman. Mine around the Thousand needles and the Redridge Mountains. You want to find Tin now, it's usually mixed in with Copper and Iron as well. Mine Tin and smelt it, then combine copper and tin bars into bronze bars. Doing this repeatedly should bring you up to around level 95.

After 75 you can learn to smelt silver ore. With this skill you can increase your mining level to 125. Mine around Thousand Needles and the Arathi Highland. You're now reaching the level to learn mining expert. And at 155 you can learn how to smelt gold ore. Start buying gold ore and smelting it into bars, if you do this for around 30 you should get up to about level 175, if the ore is not too expensive you can sell the bars at the auction house.

Level 230+ WoW Mining Guide

At 230 you can learn how to smelt Truesilver Ore, this should help you to level up to 245. When you reach 225, don't forget to visit your Mining trainer. Do this around the Hinterlands and Tanaris.

Go to Winterspring, this region is only for high level miners (at least above 65). Mine small Thorium veins and have your trainer teach you how to smelt them into thorium bars. You'll also find thorium around the Eastern Plaguelands. Next get upto level 325 mining Fel Iron Ore at the Hellfire Peninsula. Get up to level 350 mining adamantite ore at Nagrand.

You'll reach the final mining levels in Northrend. Firstly, learn Mining Grand Master when you get there. Then mine Cobalt Ore in the Borean Tundra. And finally, mine saronite ore at Sholazar Basin to reach level 450.
